3500 years ago, a powerful detox practice was born in the heart of India. Vedic healers have learned that swishing a tablespoon of oil around the mouth not only eliminates bad breath and makes teeth stronger, but seems to speed the body's healing after a number of serious illnesses and promotes also longevity.
This method is known as "kavala graha" by Hindu mystics, but researchers in the Western world now know it as oil pulling.
In Ayurveda, one of the leading schools of traditional medicine, oil pulling is said to be highly therapeutic for more than 30 systemic diseases. The technique is presented as a panacea.
So how does it work?
There are a number of studies. One such study from NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information) states that: “Circulation of oil activates salivary enzymes that absorb toxins such as chemical toxins, bacterial toxins and environmental toxins from the blood… Thus , this oil bath detoxifies and purifies the entire human body. ".
When you swish an oil around your mouth, the lipids (or fatty acids) in the oil naturally extract these potentially harmful substances from your teeth, gums, and salivary glands.
In Ayurvedic medicine, the mouth is considered a "mirror" for the entire body, and when something is out of balance in the oral cavity, a Vedic healer will tell you that there is most likely an illness brewing elsewhere in your body as well as in your system.
*This practice has not yet been adopted by modern medicine, but millions of people around the world use oil bathing every day and swear by the practice.
For my part, I found a way to make this ritual more effective and pleasant, thanks to essential oils.
Here is my personal blend, but you may prefer orange, lemon, or cardamom!
My aromatic mixture for oil bath: in a large tablespoon of coconut oil, drop 1 drop of cinnamon EO, 1 drop of clove EO, 3 drops of peppermint EO.
I like my oil to solidify before putting it in my mouth, which is why I prefer coconut oil which is also antifungal and antibacterial, but you can use it as is.
A simple technique
#1 Place a tablespoon of the oil of your choice (sesame, sunflower, coconut are preferred) in your mouth.
#2 Force the oil into your mouth, forcing it through all your teeth and onto all areas of your gums. (Really aim to get the oil into every nook and cranny of your mouth. This is very important. Billions of microorganisms live in the oral cavity and the mouth is the beginning of digestion.)
#3 Do this for 5-20 minutes, ideally early in the morning before breakfast every day.
#4 Spit the oil into a trash can, not the sink. This avoids the risk of blocking your pipes, then rinse your mouth with my super homemade mouthwash: in half a liter of water, drop the same formula of essential oils as in your spoonful of coconut oil. That's all. Shake well before using!
It may be difficult to keep the oil in your mouth for 20 minutes at first. Personally, I don't look at the time I hold on as long as possible, and that's it.
Good anti-toxic reflexes are not limited to this, add intestinal enema and above all, the daily use of at least one essential oil, the one that you will have identified using the method that I give you in my book , Breathe, Love, Heal.
